(although I'm ok to use basic transistors in a pinch for the moment - I'm more interested in modelling filters and loading effects than designing a whole amplifier!)

Another vote for tubes/valves. For guitar and other audio, the dual triodes such as 12AX7, 12AT7, 12AU7, are most common in preamp/driver stages. A pentode such as the EF86 is often found in boutique amps or Euro designs such as Vox. Output tubes: 6V6, 6L6 family, EL84, EL34 are the most common. These would allow a great deal of design flexibility. More tube models can be suggested after these are implemented. Thanks!

Here's an idea: Allow the user to define the characteristics of the tubes/valves. This will allow them to prototype any of the gagillion various tubes out there. User-defined pin count, current, voltage, capacitance, heaters, RCA, GE, Sylvania, Groove Tube, etc... Allow the user to submit the tube to your database to build that information up. You would be allowing the free market to do all the work for you! Fast, free and of the highest quality!
